Palazzo Datini is situated in the heart of the city, just a short walk from Palazzo Pretorio. The name of the via commemorates ser Lapo Mazzei, originally from Carmignano. He was a notary from Florence and a close friend of Francesco di Marco from around 1390. His religious and cultural influence was a determining factor in recommending to the Merchant to bequeath his wealth in the interest of Prato’s poor. Previously the via was named ‘della Pallacorda’, (Real Tennis) after the name of a game which was once played there.  Click for larger map
